照片前方為美利操場。左方是聖約翰座堂。這座於1849年啟用的聖公會大教堂於1869年擴建。照片所見是擴建完畢後的面貌。右方矗立於炮台里1號的一幢四層高柱廊式大樓，曾先後用作俄羅斯領使館及美商曷公司大班之府邸。1915年法國外方傳道會購入並進行改建，加建了一個小禮拜堂。前法國外方傳道會大樓現為終審法院所在地。The Murray Parade Ground was in the foreground. On the left is St. John’s Cathedral completed in 1849. A chancel was added to the Cathedral in 1869. On the right is a four-storey building with colonnaded verandah, which was situated at 1 Battery Path. It had been used as the Russian Consul’s office and subsequently the residence of Augustine Heard & Co.’s taipans. In 1915, it was bought by the French Mission and extensively rebuilt with a chapel added to the northwest corner. The former French Mission Building has become the premises of the Court of Final Appeal.
