The building in the centre was built in 1904 and became known as Union Building in 1921. It was demolished in 1950 and was redeveloped to Swire House in 1962. Swire House was subsequently demolished in 1998 and was redeveloped into the present-day Chater House in 2003. Hongkong Hotel on the right was opened in 1868.
