Cathedral of Immaculate Conception 聖母無原罪堂

In 1842, Italian missionaries on Wellington Street built Hong Kong's first Catholic church. It was a large building that seated nearly a thousand worshippers. By 1878, when it narrowly escaped a devastating fire, the congregation had outgrown the church, hemmed-in by shops and houses of the rapidly expanding city and was thus forced to relocate.
