Banyan tree at Pacific Place 太古廣場的榕樹

To build the Pacific Place, it was necessary to dig out the hillside and exposing ancient underground bunkers. More problematic was government's insistence that an ancient banyan should remain at the heart of the excavation. To overcome this hurdle, Swire Properties built the world's most expensive plant pot, supporting the tree in a concrete container while they burrowed underneath for the three-level shopping arcade and two-level, 500-bay car park. This costly testament to environmental preservation survives as a gem in the clasp composed of its orbital towers.
