Tung Ping Chau is the only place in Hong Kong blessed with the existence of shale which accounts for its peculiarity. It is also characterized by many places of interest like Kang Lau Shek, Tau Cliff, Nan Guo Shui, Cham Keng Chau and Lung Lok Shui. Since its designation as a country park, many facilities have been installed by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to facilitate visitors.東平洲是香港唯一可以欣賞到頁岩的地方，頗具特色。島位於西貢之東北，在大鵬灣內，與華界僅隔千碼。除頁岩令東平洲聲名大噪外，島上亦有多處旅遊勝景，如更樓石、頭崖、難過水、斬頸洲及龍落水等。劃作郊野公園後，漁農自然護理署郊野公園管理局更將島上主要之遊覽步行徑，加工闢建和維修，更在各處設立野餐和燒烤地點，讓遊人享用更完善的設備。
