Cochrane Street, the major artery leading through Central District to Victoria Peak where Hong Kong notables lived. The crowded street with shops, hawkers, and eateries on either side is belied by the fact that Hong Kong was already secretly preparing for war.閣麟街是中環通往半山的主要通道，兩旁各式店舖、食肆以及街邊小販雲集，行人熙來攘往，十分熱鬧。其實此時香港外圍已戰雲密佈，港府亦在備戰狀態。惟普通市民皆視香港為世外桃源，不相信戰爭的降臨。
