The Synagogue was built in 1902 by a banker, Sir Jacob E. Sassoon, in memory of his mother, Mrs. Leah E. Sassoon. It is an Eastern Jewish styled building with two storeys, and a balcony on the upper floor for the use of woman disciples. It was renovated in 1998. The renovation project obtained the Outstanding Project Award of UNESCO Asia - Pacific Heritage 2000 Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation.莉亞堂為一猶太教教堂，1902年建成，為銀行家沙宣爵士所建，用以紀念其母親莉亞女士，因此名為莉亞堂。教堂高兩層，按東猶太風格設計。樓上有陽台，供婦女使用。該教堂於1998年重修。維修計劃獲得聯合國教科文組織亞太區2000年文物古蹟保護獎優異項目獎。
