Mourning ceremony of Sir Edward Youde 悼念尤德爵士

The Governor was in fine fettle, yet he drove himself day and night. He flew to Japan and the United States publicising Hong Kong's achievements. He flew to London for briefings and to Beijing where he tried to tie up the many awkward ends left by the negotiations. Then came the shocking news from the British Embassy in Peking. Teddy Youde had done his best for Hong Kong. There was grief in the city; flags flew at half-mast when the coffin was escorted home. The service at St John's Cathedral on 9 December 1986 was conducted with full military honours and Sir David Akers-Jones delivered the eulogy on behalf of the Queen.
