Rabbits ; "Fai chun" ; The "Tong Sing" or Chinese almanac

It's the Year of the Rabbit, we focus on rabbits themselves, not only as symbois in the Chinese zodiac and mythology, but also as increasingly popular pets in space-limited Hong Kong homes. The Lunar New Year is an auspicious festival, and to increase the chances of good fortune it's traditional to write lucky words on red papers. These papers are called "Fai Chun", and may include such expressions as "Wishing you safety wherever you go", and "Good Health". We look at their origins and history. The new year is a time for looking back and looking forward, making those famous and often soon forgotten resolution.The wish to see into the future has always been with us. In Britain, "The Old Moore's Almanack" has been predicting weather and making astrological observations since 1697. The Chinese Almanac or "Tong Sing" has been around even longer. It hasn't always been available to the common people, but today it's highly popular as an advisor on auspicious dates and other matters.
