The Bun Festival is unique to the island of Cheung Chau. Its purpose is to pay homage to Pak Tai, the Taoist God of the Sea, and to drive away evil spirits with sensitive eardrums by engaging in long and loud clamours of gongs and drums. The celebration include Taoist prayers and opera performances and culminate in a procession through the heart of the island, performed by children dressed in colourful costumes.
