The Praya East Reclamation was almost completed by the early 1930s, with construction work begun to the north of Johnston Road. Morrison Hill, between Wanchai and the racecourse in Happy Valley, was considerably reduced in size during reclamation works, but its granite core resisted all attempts at quarrying and remained in place until after the Second World War.
