Chief Justice, Sir Denys Roberts in ceremonial judicial wig, robes and civilian honours, attended St John's Cathedral to mark the opening of the legal year in 1970. Never having been a judge, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1979. Sir Denys was the last Caucasian to hold the post of Chief Justice of Hong Kong.
