Ahead of architectural norms, erected on prime land adjacent to the General Post Office on Connaught Praya, and overlooking the harbour, the incongruously modern facade of the Catholic Centre rose to a surprising ten storeys in height in 1945. The neighbouring low-rise shophouses remained for a further twenty years before succumbing to the wrecking ball.
