The rickshaw is no longer a feature of the everyday street scene in Hong Kong. After licenses were discontinued in the 1980s the elderly rickshaw men increasingly sat idle between their carriage shafts. In the 1990s only a handful of the familiar red carriages were still to be seen, usually near the Star Ferry.
