This remarkable aerial view of Central District of 1945 was taken shortly after the Japanese Occupation and just prior to a period of dramatic redevelopment. With the exception of the Hongkong Bank Building of 1935, every other colonial-era building in this view was destined for redevelopment within the next five years. The Bank prevailed until 1978 when it too faced the wrecker's ball.
