A fierce debate on the sales tax

Originally released as a television broadcast on 20 August 2006. The government's controversial plans for a sales tax. Judging by the public reaction so far it looks like Hong Kong is not ready for a tax on just about everything we buy. Opposition on the street is getting stronger and even the government's political allies are against it. Is it an idea doomed to fail or is this the best way to expand Hong Kong's tax base? Vincent Fang (chairman of the Coalition against the sales tax) and Marcellus Wong (council member of the Taxation institute of Hong Kong) will discuss the above issues in this programme. Host: Yonden Lhatoo ; guest speakers: Vincent Fang, Marcellus Wong. In English with English subtitles.
