Government Hill as seen in the 1980s remains a peacefully green precinct beside the business district. Seen from the upper echelons of the newly completed Hongkong Bank, this view spans the Central Government Offices with St John's Cathedral in the foreground. St John's Building - the lower Peak Tram Station - in Garden Road was completed in 1983. And Government House with its distinctive Japanese-designed tower stands magisterial in spacious landscaping, though over the years it has forfeited its expansive view of the harbour.
