Pottinger Street, Central 中環砵甸乍街
Vertiginous Pottinger Street, one of the oldest in Central, was named after the colony's first governor. The Chinese had their own name for Pottinger Street, as they did for most things, they called it 'Shek Ban Gai', meaning stone slab street. Here sedan chair bearers have unburdened themselves and parked their palanquins along the steps, resting in the shade while awaiting their next fare.
