An early aerial view of Central District was taken briefly after the Japanese Occupation and just prior to a period of dramatic redevelopment of the business centre. With exception of the 1935 Hongkong Bank building and Government House (upper centre) every other colonial-era manifestation in this view was destined for redevelopment within the coming five years. The Bank prevailed until 1978 when it too faced the wrecker's ball.
