King Edward Hotel, Central 中環英皇酒店

The entrance to the King Edward Hotel, on the corner of Des Voeux Rod and Ice House Street, was described in advertisements as a 'high-class hotel.' It was furnished in opulent style, each room boasting its own balcony, hot and cold water, electrical lighting and fans. Like its main competitor, which burned down in 1926, the King Edward suffered its own disastrous fire in March 1929, a cataclysm that led to its permanent closure.
