HMS Hermes was a regular visitor to Victoria Harbour during the 1920s and 1930s. She was the Royal Navy's first purpose-built aircraft carrier, commissioned into service in 1924. After initial trials Hermes arrived in Hong Kong in 1925 and was assigned to the China Station to suppress pirates lurking in Hong Kong waters.
