60 years, a nation. II, The absolute principle

China's breakneck speed of urban development has been dubbed "The China Speed". In the 2nd of our three-part show to mark the 60th anniversary of the PRC's founding, we visit a mammoth infrastructure, the Shanghai HongQiao transportation hub. This project may be the world's most complex hub of its kind, combining airport, railway including a maglev, metro and road transports. It's geared to make Shanghai the centre of manpower, logistics and wealth in the YangTze river delta. What's also remarkable is that it's set to take only four years from conception to completion. This project is a symbol of China's organisational and mobilisation prowess. But achieving the speed has given rise to a myriad problems including forced demolitions that wreck lives and environmental hazards. Is rapid progress worth the soical costs?
