滙豐銀行首任買辦羅伯常 Hongkong Bank's first comprador Lo Pak-sheung
The Bank's first Comprador, Lo Pak Sheung, held office from 1865 to 1877. Unlike most, Lo was from Whampoa not from Canton. His extensive network of business contacts stood him in good stead, enabling him also to establish interests in a number of firms outside the scope of his duties at the Bank. He advanced owning a 'native bank', a gold dealer's shop, a trading firm and a ship chartering business. His son, Lo Hok Pang, who graduated from Queen's College, succeeded him as Comprador to the Bank.
