馬敘朝 Ma Tsui Chiu

馬敘朝 (1878－1959)，廣東台山人，本港政商界名人，是公有源綢緞莊司理、昌華有限公司總經理、康年人壽保險及康年儲蓄銀行董事會主席、大華銀業、公裕銀號、四邑輪船公司、新寧鐵路公司等的股東。公職方面，曾任東華三院及保良局主席、四邑商工總會、五邑工商總會、台山商會、中華總商會等的會董及顧問。1949 年獲頒香港政府榮譽勳章。

《香港華商特藏》保存了馬氏在商務、社會公職及私人的大量文檔，包括各類進支來往數簿、僑匯、貯項、按揭、股票、物業買賣等的紀錄、租項簿、契約、公務函件等。私人文檔亦包括法律及訟事文件、算命書、嫁娶文書、家譜、委任證書、書信及相片等。

Ma Tsui Chiu (1878-1959), a native of Toi Shan, Canton, was a celebrity in the political and business circles of Hong Kong. He served as manager of Kung Yau Yuen silk piece store, general manager of Cheong Wah Co., Ltd., chairman of the board of directors of Hong Nin Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and Hong Nin Savings Bank, shareholder of Dai Wah Banking Co., Ltd., Kung Yue Money Exchange Shop, Sze Yap Steamship Co. and The Sun Ning Railway Co., and more. Regarding public service, he was a former chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Po Leung Kuk, director and advisor of Hong Kong Sze Yap Commerce and Industrial Association, Five Districts Business Welfare Association, Toi Shan Association, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, and other community groups. In 1949, Ma was awarded the Hong Kong Government Medal of Honor.

Hong Kong Chinese Merchants Collection contains a large quantity of Ma’s business and personal documents. The former includes business account books, ledgers, remittance and money deposit books, mortgage and share papers, property accounts, rent books, contracts, commercial correspondence, invoices and receipts, etc. Personal materials include records of the family lawsuit cases, fortunate-telling reports, ritual papers, certificates, personal letters and photographs.
